How each section is written
The policy is organized as a plain record: what we hold, the purpose it serves, the sharing rules, the retention clock, and the routes you have. Every heading names the topic on its row, and each row is the full statement — no cross-references, no summary elsewhere.

Section one
Data we collect
We collect the information you provide directly. That includes your email address if you subscribe to the newsletter, and the content of any message you send through the contact channels, including news tips, correction requests and media enquiries.
We also collect basic technical data generated by your visit, such as pages requested and the date and time of the request. This is the ordinary record a web server keeps when it answers a page, and it is what lets us tell a working page from a broken one.
In plain terms
-
You give us
Your email address when you subscribe, and whatever you write in a message to the desk.
-
Your visit produces
The pages you requested, with the date and time of each request.
-
We do not ask for
Payment details, identity documents, or any sensitive category of personal data.
If you are sending a news tip, write only what you are comfortable putting in an email. You are not required to identify yourself to send a correction request or a general enquiry.
Section two
Why we collect it
Newsletter addresses are used to send the weekly briefing. Contact messages are used to review tips, process corrections, and respond to enquiries. Technical data is used to keep the site working and to understand which pages are being read.
We do not use any of this data for automated decision-making about individuals. There is no profiling, no scoring, and no advertising segment built from your reading history.
The weekly briefing is a single email. If you reply to it, that reply reaches the editorial desk and is handled the same way as a message sent through the contact page.
Evening traffic on the corridor routes we report on. Reader correspondence is reviewed the next working morning.
Section three
Cookies and similar technologies
The site uses cookies and similar storage to operate correctly and to measure aggregate page usage. The Cookie Policy describes the categories used and how to control them in your browser. Blocking cookies may affect some site functions.
Aggregate measurement means counts of page views, not a profile tied to a name. We do not combine cookie data with the contents of a message you send to the desk.
Two categories in use
Site function
Keeps pages loading and forms submitting correctly. Blocking these may break parts of the site.
Aggregate measurement
Counts page views so editors know which desks are worth covering. Not tied to a personal profile.
Section four
Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell personal data. Newsletter addresses are not shared with third parties for marketing. Where a service provider supports the site, such as email delivery for the briefing, data is processed on our instruction and only for that purpose.
We may disclose information where required by law or to respond to a lawful request.
Never done
Selling your email address, or sharing it with an advertiser or a marketing list.
Done on our instruction
Passing an address to the email service that delivers the briefing, for delivery alone.
Done only if compelled
Disclosure where the law requires it, or in answer to a lawful request from an authority.
Section five
Retention
Newsletter addresses are kept for as long as you remain subscribed, and removed promptly after you unsubscribe. Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and to maintain an accurate record of corrections. Technical logs are kept for a limited period for operational and security purposes.
Newsletter address
Kept while you remain subscribed
Correspondence
Held while the enquiry is open
Technical logs
Held for a limited operational period
Where the law is silent
If a specific holding period is not set elsewhere, we keep the record for as long as it serves the purpose above, then delete it.
Where a period is not fixed in advance, we decide it by asking whether the record is still needed for the enquiry, the correction log, or site security. Nothing is kept past that answer.

Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, request that it be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in each issue.
To make a request, contact the editorial desk using the details on the Contact page. We may ask you to confirm the address a request relates to, so that we do not act on a request made by someone else.
Section seven
Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the data we hold. No method of transmission or storage carries zero risk, and we do not claim otherwise.
If we become aware of a breach affecting personal data, we will act in line with applicable requirements. That includes reviewing what was affected and the steps open to us.
Access to the newsletter list is limited to the staff who prepare and send the briefing. Correspondence is read by the desk it was addressed to.
Section eight
Children
The site is a news publication and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through the newsletter or contact channels.
If you believe a child has sent personal data to the desk, write to us at the address below and we will remove the record and stop any subscription tied to it.
Changes to this policy
Published here with a new effective date
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the site after an update means the revised policy applies.
